How to create a home maintenance log

A home maintenance log is a record of completed work, repairs, inspections, replacements, documents, and follow-up tasks. It helps you understand how the home has been cared for and gives future repairs better context.

1. Start with the basics

Record the date, title, description, and property area for each maintenance event. Use plain language that future you will understand quickly.

2. Add who did the work

Save the contractor, service provider, team member, or homeowner who completed the work. This makes repeat service and warranty questions easier later.

3. Attach documents and photos

Invoices, receipts, warranty files, manuals, inspection photos, and before-and-after images can turn a basic note into a useful record.
